Mrs. Young - Speech Language Pathologist
Hello! My name is Maria Young, the speech-language pathologist at Bryan Middle School. The 2020-2021 school year will be my 4th year here. My primary role as a school-based SLP is to assess, diagnose, and treat students with communication disorders. I help support our students who may have difficulty with speech, language, social communication, fluency (stuttering), and executive functioning skills.
I was born and raised here in Omaha and I attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha for both my bachelor’s and master’s degree in speech-language pathology. When I am not at school, I enjoy being with my husband, friends, family, and our cat and dog, Luna and Sagan. I love baking, reading, taking the dog for walks, and binging Netflix.
This is going to be a challenging year for all of us due to the pandemic. Masks and social distancing are going to be crucial for the safety of everyone. For students learning their speech sounds, being able to see the therapist's mouth movements is important for learning. This is more difficult with a traditional mask, so it is going to take some adjustments and problem solving on our part this year to figure out to work together in the safest possible way. I will be updating on here as we learn more. Thank you for being flexible and patient this year. We will get through this together!
As always, I am happy to be here and I look forward to serving the students, staff, and community of Bryan Middle School this school year.
Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions.
